Decorative Touches to Make Your House Extra Cozy

Winter is starting to creep up on us: there’s a definite chill in the air and the nights are getting longer. It’s the time of year when there’s nothing nicer than staying indoors where it’s nice and cozy.

House Extra Cozy

If you want to make your house as warm and inviting as possible, there are a few decorative touches that you can add to your home.

Textures and layers

If you want your rooms to look as cozy and inviting as possible, then be sure to layer up lots of different types of fabric for a textured look.

Textures and layers

For example, have a couple of different material throws on your couch, and pair that up with luxury throw pillows in different textures. Make use of rugs in different colors and textures that feel nice and squishy when you step on them. You could even consider fabric wall hangings, anything that makes stepping into the room feel like wrapping yourself in a blanket.

Cozy reading nook

Something about books makes a room look incredibly inviting. Pair that with a super comfy place to read them and you’re onto a winner.

If you have wide window sills then layer them up with cushions and blankets to make yourself a window seat, or you could create an incredibly comfortable reading area by getting yourself some huge squishy bean bags.

Blanket box

To make yourself nice and cozy, make sure that there is an adequate supply of blankets on hand for people to wrap themselves up in. If you don’t want to have all of your blankets on display, you can build your own wooden blanket storage chest to keep them in.

Knits

Nothing makes a room look warmer and more inviting than it is kitted out with knits. Use knitted blankets as throws and cushion covers, or use a knitted blanket over the top of your duvet to add some layering to your bed.

Warm light

Light plays a big part in how we feel, so it’s important to make the light in your home feel as warm as possible.

Warm light

If you’re lucky enough to have an open fire then lighting it will make your room feel warmer, as well as actually making it warmer of course. If not, then you can achieve a similar effect by switching off your main overhead lights, which can be a little harsh and cold, and instead lighting up your room using candles and lamps.

Wood

Incorporating wood into your home can make it feel warmer, particularly the deeper-colored and more textured woods. Think about dotting a few pieces of wooden furniture throughout your home to create a warmer feel.

Color

The colors that you choose to put on your walls can have a huge impact on how a room feels, so if you want your home to feel cozy then be sure to select ‘warm’ colors. That doesn’t mean you have to paint everything red or orange. Even choosing an eggshell over a flat white will feel much warmer when it's on the walls.
