How to Make This Christmas Special Despite COVID-19

Christmas is fast-approaching, but it is clear that this year the holiday season will not be your typical Christmas due to the ongoing pandemic. It is hard to say exactly what the situation will be come Christmas, but it is likely that there will be restrictions in place, which means that you may not be able to spend time with loved ones outside or in your own household, or mix with more than one other household. This year, more than ever, people want to be with their loved ones, which means that you need to find ways to make this Christmas extra special despite restrictions. Here are a few ideas which will hopefully help.

Christmas Special Despite COVID-19

1. Christmas present opening on Zoom

Of course, one of the best things about Christmas is opening presents with family and seeing people’s reactions. This will be a little harder this year but not impossible as you can set up a Christmas present opening party on Zoom where you take it in turns to open gifts. You could also play games, have a few drinks and snacks to connect with family on the day itself no matter where they are.

2020 has been a difficult year for everyone and in many different ways. It has given people the time and reason to reflect, with many people realizing just how important their loved ones are to them. This is why instead of Christmas cards with the same generic message in, you should take the time to write your loved ones a handwritten letter, which they are sure to love receiving through the post.

3. Personalised Christmas ornaments

People are going to have to spend more time at home this winter, which means that you will want to make a special effort when it comes to decorating. Personalised Christmas ornaments would be a nice touch that adds an extra touch to this year’s decorations and is a great way to feel closer to your loved ones even if they are not able to visit.

It will be tough this year, but everyone is in the same boat and it could end up being a Christmas to remember if people make the effort. There are lots of festive pandemic-inspired events that allow people to celebrate and participate in traditions in a safe manner, such as drive-in cinemas showing holiday films, socially-distanced events and online calls with Santa, just to name a few of the ideas that are appearing online.

5. Give your loved ones a care package

It’s probable that we are no going to be able to see our families and friends this Christmas. However, there are still many ways to remind them that we are thinking of them. A covid care package is basically a basket or a set of goods to give to a special person based on their likes and needs. If you don’t know where to start, there are many ideas around the web such as this list from Proper Good.

6. Enjoy it how you want

Finally, it is important to state that it is important to simply enjoy Christmas how you wish this year as long as you are staying safe and protecting public health. This has been a difficult year for everyone and it is understandable if people want to simply lounge around the house watching Christmas TV, indulge in good food and have a few drinks.
This Christmas will certainly be different due to COVID-19, but this does not have to mean that the holidays are canceled and hopefully this post will give you a few ideas for ways to celebrate.
