If you live in a small space, you probably already know how much every inch of space counts. Are you on a constant lookout for clever storage solutions to help you keep your home clean and tidy?
Let’s get inspired with a few new storage ideas you might not have thought of.
Maximise your vertical space
Using vertical space (i.e.: your walls) to your advantage helps you keep floor space clearer.
Floating shelves look classy in practically any room and they’re an excellent way to store items that you don’t mind having on display.
Wall-mounted cabinets work really well for other items, and they look much sleeker than ordinary standing cabinets.
If your house has high ceilings, you have a special advantage because there’s more vertical space you can use for storage solutions.
Utilise other underused spaces
There may be other parts of your home you haven’t considered that might be easy to convert into extra storage space.
Invest in a fitted storage area under the stairs, or somewhere else you wouldn’t normally think of. You’ll be amazed how much space that frees up in your home!
Drawer and cupboard organisers
If your home is small, you probably don’t have room to keep more than one or two chests of drawers. The inevitable peril of this is that you can end up with drawers that are filled to bursting with a tonne of toiletries, towels and general odds and ends.
Enter cupboard organisers! You can find these available for kitchens and dressers alike. You can even find organisers designed for very specific functions like underwear drawers and fridges.
The benefit of these is that they prevent you from piling things on top of each other in the drawer so that you might then have trouble finding an item later.
The things in your drawers will look fabulous, too!
Multifunctional furniture
This is another top tip for anyone trying to stay on top of storage in a small space. When you buy furniture, don’t just buy furniture… buy furniture that doubles up with another purpose!
For example, you can’t go wrong with an ottoman that doubles as a seat but has a nice, large storage area inside.
When your storage is more organised in your small space, you’ll feel better and you’ll probably also find it easier to find things…
If you don’t have the number of rooms you would ideally like your home to have, you could even try making whole rooms multipurpose. For example, you could combine the kitchen and dining room. You could have a corner of your bedroom double up as a living space with a comfy beanbag or two and some books.
When you think about it, there are lots of clever ways to optimise storage so that you can get more out of them. Sometimes it just takes a little bit of extra creativity.
