Christmas salt dough decorations with scents are the ideal finishing touch for a homey Christmas atmosphere. Almost all of the components for this recipe are most likely already in your kitchen.

The ornaments may even be painted after they've been cooked.
Ornaments made with salt dough
Scents of the season will permeate the air in your house thanks to scented Christmas decorations. The ideal Christmas fragrance is made with natural spices including ground cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and nutmeg, as well as a touch of orange essential oil.
I make an effort to spend the Christmas season with my children, building memories and traditions that they will cherish. We began creating handmade decorations a few years ago and intend to continue doing so each year.
Salt dough ornaments, whether made with this recipe or the chocolate-scented variant, will keep for years.
Ornaments created by hand are also a wonderful present idea. Tie them to parcels or customize them to give to friends and family to put on their Christmas trees.
Recipe for the Best Salt Dough
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 pound of salt
- 2 teaspoons crushed clove
- 2 teaspoons nutmeg
- 1 cup water ginger
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons Essential oil of orange (optional but it adds to the amazing smell)
Salt Dough Ornaments: How to Make Them
- Combine the flour, salt, spices, and, if using, the orange essential oil in a mixing bowl.
- After that, gradually add the water until you have a workable dough. Because you don't want it to be too gooey and sticky, I usually start with a little less water and add more if necessary. The dough should be similar to play-dough consistency.
- Roll out the dough and cut out the ornament shapes you wish. If you want to hang the ornaments, make a hole for the thread using a skewer, straw, or anything else.
How to Make Salt Dough and Bake It
- Arrange the ornaments on a baking sheet and bake at the lowest possible temperature. The temperature in my oven was set at 170 degrees.
- Bake the perfumed salt dough ornaments for 1 hour before flipping them and baking for another hour.
- Finally, take them out of the oven and set them aside to cool. Then be creative by leaving them simple, painting them, making a garland, tying them to parcels, or just using them as decorations.
What Is the Shelf Life of Salt Dough?
Salt dough decorations prepared at home may endure a long time. Salt is a preservative that keeps your decorations from becoming moldy.
Wrap them up very carefully in tissue paper or newspaper at the end of the season. Place them in a secure storage place where they won't be crushed or ruined. One of the safest places to keep ornaments is in a box made specifically for them.
