1. Check Out the Museums
There are a number of fantastic museums in Houston, and you could probably spend a whole weekend exploring them alone. Some of these museums are even linked by underground passages in what is known as the "Museum District" in Houston.
- The Museum of Natural Science: Incredible fun for all the family, the Museum of Natural Science in Houston is one of the most popular museums in the city.
- There's a huge collection of fossils and dinosaur bones, as well as ancient artifacts spanning centuries.
- The Museum of Fine Arts: This museum remarkably holds around 70,000 pieces of art. Clearly, you're going to need a lot more than a weekend to get around it all, but there are tours that can help you get the absolute best out of it.
- The Children's Museums of Houston: If you're traveling with kids, this museum is an absolute must! There are lots of practical, educational, and fun exhibits.
The whole experience is full of color and will keep your kids entertained for hours.
2. Visit the Space Center
While the Space Center is classed as a museum of sorts, it deserves its own section.
Houston is a hub for all things space travel, with the famous Johnson Space Center at its center. The Houston Space Center is a way for anyone to experience what it's like to be in that world.

You can take a tour of a replica of Skylab, which was the first United States space station. Or you can jump on a tram and take a tour around "Rocket Park" where old rockets are kept.
3. Grab a Bite to Eat
Let's face it, it's not a great weekend away anywhere if you don't get the chance to eat some great food.
Thanks to the power of the internet, you can stand in downtown Houston and search "best burgers near me" and get directions to some delicious burgers!
With Houston being a hotspot in the oil industry, it attracts people from all over the world and so there are foods to suit every culture.
4. Visit a Zoo or a Park
There are some wonderful outdoor areas to explore in Houston. The Houston Zoo has everything you'd want from a zoo, with plenty of exotic animals.

Get up close and personal with some animals too with some encounter experiences. You can hang out with sloths, gorillas, sea lions, and even alligators!
If you'd prefer a stroll around a park while on your trip to Houston, check out Hermann Park’s Japanese Garden. It's a wonderfully ambient and peaceful place to be.
