In the past, humans have always felt at ease in the woods. After all, that is where we come from a very long time ago. Trees, however, continue to play an essential part in our lives even in the contemporary day. People who live near trees have been shown to have better physical and mental health, and trees are essential for avoiding climate change.

Naturally, when we get a better understanding of our connection with trees and the environment, we find ourselves wanting to spend more time in and among them. People are increasingly constructing imaginative treehouses for use as hotels, restaurants, teahouses, and, on rare occasions, as a method of communication with extraterrestrials (see the Beach Rock Treehouse below). Here are some of the world's coolest treehouses.
1. Point TreeHouse
TreeHouse Point is a treehouse B&B located just outside of Seattle in Issaquah, Washington. Six treehouse cabins rise high above the Raging River, connected to the forest floor by suspension bridges and winding stairs. Guests may also do yoga, tai chi, or get a massage at TreeHouse Point.
2. Silky Oaks Lodge
Silky Oaks Lodge is a luxury lodge in Queensland, Australia's Mossman Gorge River, amid the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest, which is known as the world's oldest rainforest. A treetop, open-air café and bar overlooking the river connects 40 modern treehouses. After renovations, Silky Oaks (and its adjacent spa) will reopen in late 2021.
3. Restaurant Yellow Treehouse
The Yellow Treehouse Restaurant is a pod-shaped restaurant constructed around a 130-foot-tall redwood tree in Auckland, New Zealand. It's not a normal restaurant; it's only open for special occasions. If you have $3k to spare, you may book it for yourself and 30-50 of your closest friends and family.
4. Finca Bellavista
Finca Bellavista is a sustainable treehouse community in Costa Rica's rainforest canopy, and it's the closest thing there is to a true jungle retreat. You may buy a piece of land and construct your own treehouse, or you can simply stay there for a few nights. You may zipline between treehouses using these. There are miles and miles of hiking paths. There are rivers and waterfalls to swim in. It's the coolest spot on Earth, with birdwatching, garden tours, and hammocks.
5. Treehotel treehouse
The Treehotel in Harads, Sweden, is second to none, with six truly amazing treehouse suites ranging from the strange, alien-themed UFO room to the almost-invisible Mirrorcube. It takes your craziest treehouse ideas and goes with them. Evenings will be spent eating quietly (local food only, of course), nights will be illuminated by the northern lights, and mornings will be spent with your imagination running as wild as the countryside.
6. Nanshan Treehouse Resort
The Nanshan Treehouse Resort, located on the island of Hainan in the South China Sea, has three huge, multi-level tree houses that can accommodate up to 20 guests. The furnishings are simple, the rates are reasonable, and the treehouses themselves are designed in the manner of birdhouses. The resort is also close to a Buddhist theme park with a number of pagodas and temples, which is located just off the shore.
7. Tetsu Teahouse
The Teahouse Tetsu is just what it says on the tin: a teahouse perched in a tree. It was created by architect Terunobu Fujimori and stands atop a cypress tree in Hokuto City, Japan, amid the pink cherry blossoms. It's one of 10 buildings in this diverse, creative hamlet, which acts as an interactive museum for visitors.
8. Treepod Soneva
The Soneva Kiri Resort on the Thai island of Koh Kood offers a unique feature: "treepod" dining. You enter the pod on the forest floor, and it is then lifted into the canopy, where you are given a dinner by a server — who also happens to be an acrobat — on a zipline. Breakfast, supper, and high tea are all available, with views stretching across the old woodland to the sea.
9. Hotel Nothofagus
The Nothofagus Hotel is nestled amid the trees of Chile's Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve. With 55 rooms, this may be the world's biggest treehouse complex. On-site amenities include hot springs, a spa, and a restaurant, as well as hiking, bicycling, and horseback riding.
10. Muskoka Treehouse
The 4Treehouse is the name of designer Lukasz Kos' treehouse near Lake Muskoka, Ontario. It was intended to have the least amount of effect on the trees in the area. When lighted up at night, this treehouse, which has three floors, resembles a Japanese lantern, hanging heavy in the pine air. This treehouse may be the one for you if you're searching for a wintery treehouse.
11. Hapuku Treehouses and Lodge
Hapuku Lodge is a luxury resort in Kaikoura, New Zealand, with many 30-foot-tall tree houses overlooking the Kaikoura Seaward Mountains and Mangamaunu Bay. You'll spend your days fishing, meeting dolphins, sea kayaking, and swimming with seals in the modern treehouses, which are large enough for couples or families.
12. Airbnb in Costa Rica
This treehouse in Alajuela, Costa Rica, has a wraparound terrace and is close to 15 natural hot and cold springs. It's a short drive from the treehouse to Costa Rica's renowned Volcano Arenal, which is part of the Bio Thermales natural resort. It costs $112 per night right now.
