It's that time of year again! Cooler weather, shorter days and pumpkin flavored everything. It’s time to swap out our summer wear for cute and cozy attire. Transitioning your summer wardrobe into fall can get expensive especially if you're trying to replace every clothing or accessory item you own.

Fortunately, you don't have to do this! By selecting some of your summer faves, stirring up a little mix-and-match magicand purchasing a couple of fall essentials, you can be fashionable and in season without breaking the bank.
Transitioning From Summer to Fall Fashion
Jump to:
#1 Don't Put Away Those Adorable Sundresses
Feeling a little bummed that the chill in the air means sundress weather is over? I have good news for you! Pair your favorite dress with a fall toned cardigan or denim jacket. The same trick works for those cute summer tops, extending their life while freshening up your look.
Another way to get extra use out of those summer dresses is to wear them over a pair of tights. This does double duty by keeping you warm and looking stylish.

#2 Invest in a Great Jacket
Before you start grumbling about how much a decent jacket costs, hear me out. The right outerwear can bring your summer outfits seamlessly into autumn without having to spend money on an entirely new wardrobe.
Denim, leather, or suede are ideal for fall, not to mention trendy and classic. Mixing one of these materials with the lighter textures of summer pieces gives your outfit an instant, seasonal upgrade that's easy to transition with fluctuating temperatures.

#3 Boots, Boots, Boots
Every fall wardrobe requires an amazing pair of boots. Knee-high, mid-calf, ankle booties, it doesn't matter. Choose a pair you love in a neutral color to match any outfit.
This may be another item you need to buy but again, it's absolutely worth the cash. Boots go well with nearly anything, including jeans, skirts, leggings or dresses. They don't have to cost an arm and a leg, either. There are many places that sell good quality boots at affordable prices.

#4 Go For Fall Colors
Adding just a couple of those rich autumn hues to an outfit can completely transform it. Crimson, gold, warm browns or burnt orange can take a pair of jeans and a summer top straight into the new season.
One of the hottest color combos this year is golden yellow paired with burgundy. Keep an eye out for these shades or dig them out of your closet because they're definitely in right now.

#5 Pull Out the Knitwear
Is there anything that says autumn like a chunky sweater or knit cardigan? Everyone's got at least a couple of these lurking around somewhere. Get them out, layer them with summer pieces or jeans and don't forget the boots!

#6 Layer Your Look
Layering fall and summer items isn't just fashionable, it's functional too. Chilly autumn mornings can quickly turn into sweltering sunny days, which then turn crisp once more as the sun dips in the sky.
Being stylish isn't worth it if you're too hot or too cold all day. Add a topper over a short sleeved shirt and a cute scarf to accent your look. Be careful not to go overboard and wind up with too many items. You're going for comfort and style, not surviving an ice storm.

#7 Don't Forget the Details
Paying attention to seemingly minor details of your outfit is what truly takes it to the next level. You may be decked out in the ultimate autumn ensemble but if your makeup or nail polish or accessories are baby pink or sky blue, your whole look can fall flat.
Purchasing just a few cosmetics and a new bag or hat in fall colors won't cost much, it will add a bit of glam, and it will help your entire wardrobe transition smoothly from summer to fall.
